Awesome Utilities for Educators in 2010!



1. Wallwisher - Wallwisher is an online “message board” maker, useful for keeping notes, making announcements, posting comments, meeting notes, reminders for students, etc. You can also use links, pictures, or video. It is quick and easy and requires no registration. Sample "wall".
2. Todaysmeet.com - Todaysmeet.com allows you to immediately set up a private online space for a classroom, audience or committee for collecting feedback, insights, questions, answers, etc. Todaysmeet is like a cross between a blog and Twitter. It is hard to explain, so check it out. No registration required.
3. Poll everywhere - A Web-based audience/classroom polling service that works via cell phone and/or the Web. Free accounts are available to K-12.
4. Doodle - This is an easy-to-use site for scheduling meetings/events and/or conducting quick one-question polls. Registration is free and optional. Here is a link to a sample Doodle scheduling request.

5. PDFtoword.com - Have you ever wanted/needed to convert a PDF document into a Word document so that you can edit the document? If so, this is a free Web-based tool that can help you with that.
6. Zamzar - A web site that allows you to convert files from one format to another without downloading any software. For example, getting a YouTube video to use in Word or PowerPoint.
7. tinyURL - A Web-based tool for taking a long URL address and converting it to a shorter, more manageable address.

8. Print What You Like - Save Money. Save the Environment. Tired of printing web pages only to find your printout is full of ads, empty space and other junk you don't want? PrintWhatYouLike is a free online editor that lets you format any web page for printing in seconds!
9. Readability a free a simple tool that makes reading on the Web easier and more enjoyable by removing the clutter around what you're reading. Get the Bookmarklet here and the Firefox add-on here.
10. Jing or ScreenJelly - Two free programs for Mac or Windows that “captures and shares images and video…from your computer to anywhere”. Jing is a downloaded program, Screenjelly works right from your web browser.
